The bustling downtown core of Memphis, TN at night full of tourists and locals
Posted: 10/7/21 | October 7th, 2021

We’re back! After taking a two-year break due to COVID-19, I’m excited to announce that we’ve started planning our next TravelCon. TravelCon is our three-day travel media event that focuses on helping you improve your craft, learn new business skills, network with your coworkers, and connecting you with all the awesome brands and tourism boards that attend!

Last month, the events team and I went to Memphis for a site visit to inspect the conference space, look at venues for parties and meet-ups, and begin planning what is going to be a huge event.

TravelCon will be on April 29th-May 1st, 2022 and will feature pre- and post-event trips, a scavenger hunt, writing and photo workshops, and in-depth, actionable talks.

Today, I want to share some of the details, our first round of speakers, and ticket sign-up information.

At TravelCon, you can:

  • Improve your craft in the four major areas of travel: video, photography, writing, and blogging
  • Learn what’s hot, what works, and what doesn’t in the industry
  • Keep current on the best practices in digital travel publishing
  • Learn about new products and services in the industry
  • Meet destinations and travel brands
  • Learn from experts outside the travel industry
  • Make connections with other travel lovers
  • Have a ton of fun!!!

What can you expect?

This year, we’re making some changes and improving on what we’ve already built. First, we’re adding an industry track for DMOs and PR brands so that they can learn while at the event too. Second, we’re reducing the number of panels we have so that there is less talk and more actionable tips on how to improve your business. Third, we’re getting rid of our second-night party so you can spend more time networking at our niche meet-ups and exploring the city. Fourth, we’re adding in a scavenger hunt around the city where winners will get huge prizes. And, finally, we’re adding a bigger focus on sustainability and diversity in our talks.

We’re excited about all the changes!

What’s the schedule like?

Wondering what the run of the show will be like? Here’s our current draft of the schedule:

What are we doing in relation to COVID?

This event is vaccination only. All our speakers, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees are required to be fully vaccinated and have to show proof in order to attend. There are no exceptions.

If you bought a ticket from a previous year’s event and are not vaccinated and don’t plan to be, we’ll roll your ticket over to a future event.

Seeing as we are just coming out of the pandemic, we want to ensure the health of safety of all our attendees — especially those in high-risk categories.

How can you get tickets?

Tickets for TravelCon are $399 USD and include access to all talks, keynotes, parties, happy hours, lunches, breakfasts, coffee breaks, and anything else we do as part of the official event. You’ll get a recording of all the talks too.

You can buy tickets here.

If you can’t make it in person, we have a virtual ticket that will allow you to view all the talks online. We record every talk and upload them at the end of each day. That ticket is $99 USD.

Come join us in Memphis for our first dedicated media event since COVID and reconnect with your colleagues, make new friends, and meet some of the best brands in the industry! It’s going to be the best TravelCon yet!!

Book Your Trip: Logistical Tips and Tricks

Book Your Flight
Find a cheap flight by using Skyscanner or Momondo. They are my two favorite search engines because they search websites and airlines around the globe so you always know no stone is left unturned.

Book Your Accommodation
You can book your hostel with Hostelworld. If you want to stay somewhere other than a hostel, use Booking.com as they consistently return the cheapest rates for guesthouses and cheap hotels.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong. I never go on a trip without it as I’ve had to use it many times in the past. I’ve been using World Nomads for ten years. My favorite companies that offer the best service and value are:
