This paradise for vegetarians has sweetened the deal with the addition of dinner service and exceptional new dishes

It’s hard not to fall in love at first bite with La Botanica Organica, near Puerto Viejo de Limon, Costa Rica. And it’s the kind of place that loves you right back.

Dedicated to spreading a philosophy of healthy eating, La Botanica Organica is a casual restaurant that’s clearly committed to sharing culinary creations that nourish the body and soul – and that are good for the environment, too.

Previously only open for breakfast and lunch, La Botanica Organica is now serving dinner, and it’s also added new daily specials to its offerings, all of which include coffee or ice tea and cost just 3800 colones (around $8).

La Botanica Organica is completely organic and vegetarian; features macrobiotic, vegan, raw and gluten-free dishes; and happily accommodates special requests for allergenic diners.

Among the popular standout dishes are the lentil beet burger, hummus sandwich and organic vegetarian pizzas, but according to La Botanica Organica devotees, everything is downright delicious.

Super Goji Berry and Hemp Seed Granola, naturally sweetened smoothies and wholesome whole wheat pancakes and French toast are some of the breakfast standards that come highly recommended.

In lush, green Costa Rica, one might expect an abundance of vegetarian dining options, but that’s simply not the case. Even along the less developed Caribbean coast, there’s just a small number of options, and La Botanica Organica has been a standout in its class since its inception.

Though all of its offerings are meat-free, the generous portions and hearty combinations will satisfy everyone, and even children are easy to please here.

In La Botanica Organica’s shop adjacent to the cafe, you can find a wide variety of goodies to take home, like jars of homemade cacao cashew butter dubbed “The Stuff” for its extraordinary properties; organic coffee and tea; and even a selection of biodegradable body care and home and garden care products – from tea tree oil to toothpaste and tinctures.

Fres, organic fruits and veggies are also available all week. Eco-friendly gifts like crystals and handbags made from recycled materials make for thoughtful souvenirs.

La Botanica Organica is now open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

La Botanica Organica’s located a 20-minute bike ride south of Puerto Viejo de Limon on the main road in Playa Chiquita. Or, you can take the bus to Manzanillo and get off 30 meters before Playa Chiquita Lodge.
